Today, I’m joined by another Bloomsbury Spark author. Cat Kalen writes pulse pounding YA, and she’s also a romance author under the name Cathryn Fox. Enjoy!
1. When did you start writing?
Many years ago, oh, about 22 when I lived up in northern Canada (brrr..) population 800. Since we had no roads in or out of the small community, and everything was done by plane, I had nowhere to go so I read, read, and read some more. When I ran out of books to read, I figured maybe I should try writing one!
2. Are you a pantser or a planner?
When I started out, I was a pantser, but after years of going off in the wrong direction too many times, I am now a planner!
3. Can you give us an idea of your writing process?
I’m a full time writer, so I’m at my desk every day. I get up every morning, get on the exercise bike and read. After eating and showering, I’m at my desk for the rest of the day, and well, most weekends too! My kids are both in university now, and my husband is a shift worker so I do have a lot more time on my hands.
4. Which authors have influenced your work?
I have two more releases in my Pride series, by Cat Kalen. I also write as Cathryn Fox and have about 14 releases in 2014!! I’ve been busy. You can find Cathryn Fox here www.cathrynfox.com Those books are on the spicy side.
6. Any tips for new writers?
Read. Read. Read. Write. Write. Write. Then go find writer’s groups, get involved in organization. Learn the craft, the business. Find a critique partner that you trust. Attend conference if you can and network!
7. Any tips for old writers?
Never stop learning.
