During last year’s A-Z Challenge, I talked about my fascination with Jo March and Little Women. I just can’t stay away from the topic!
That’s why J is for…
Jo March from Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women
Jo is an awesome character. She’s a writer, the second oldest of four girls, and a dreamer. Jo is still a bit unconventional, even a century and a half after she first appeared in Little Women; although each of the surviving March sisters gets to have her own brand of adventure, Jo moves away from home to live in New York City. She supports herself as a writer (until she has a rather uncalled for morality lecture), and she continues to dream big throughout the story.
There have been so many film adaptations of this beloved book, and actresses like Katherine Hepburn and Winona Ryder have brought the sassy, creative Jo to life.

Do you know, of all the books I read as a child, this was the one I hated most, I think because it incensed me so much, what with Beth dying and the morality lecture! The other book I loathed was the Water Babies. I should have read another of your entires!!
Good luck with the rest of the A-Z! I’m doing animal poems and facts and often a drawing as well, I like to make things hard for myself.

I totally understand the morality lecture complaint…the story is one big lesson. Still, I can’t help my enduring love of the March sisters. Thanks for visiting, I’ll be sure to check your blog out!

Beth is generally my favorite, but Jo is one the best characters ever written. I really love her, and Little Women. Wonderful post.
Happy A to Z blogging!
